travel south america peru lima cercado de lima lima metropolitan cathedral ARCHITECTS: FRANCISCO BECERRA, JUAN MARTINEZ DE ARRONA, JUAN RHER, MATIAS MAESTRO (1602-1797)
The Basilica Metropolitan Cathedral of Lima and Primate of Peru, also known as Lima Metropolitan Cathedral, in located in the Plaza Mayor of downtown Lima, Peru.
It is the third and current Cathedral and was built between 1602 and 1797 and is dedicated to St. John, Apostle and Evangelist.
I visited the Cathedral on a nice sunny day in March and was pleasantly suprised to find a beautiful and spacious interior to rival cathedrals I have visited all over Europe.
I moved through the Cathedral separate from the guide so I could photograph it without people crowding the scene.
As a result, I didn't learn all of it's history and had to rely on the internet to fill in the gaps.
